Conspiracy to murder acquittal at the Old Bailey

Feb 2024

Nick represented a man alleged to be the gunman in a drive-by shooting. After a two-week trial which involved a detailed cross-examination of the prosecution expert cell-site expert, Nick successfully argued there was no case to answer and his client was acquitted of two offences of conspiracy to murder, and firearms offences.

It was alleged that four defendants plotted to kill two men. They obtained a stolen 4×4 vehicle, sourced a shotgun, and shot at two men as they left a residential property in Chingford, London. The stolen vehicle was then burned nearby in Highams Wood where emergency services found it.  A huge police investigation included a trawl of CCTV from local residents, shops and council-owned security systems which led to the identification of Nick’s client when he was seen to leave Highams Wood and walk to his home address.  Police then built up the case using phone and cell-site evidence.

Nick was instructed by Guven Ates of Atesh Solicitors, and led Fer Chinner of 2 Harcourt Building.
